Itinerary:
Day 01 – Saturday | Quito
Arrival in Quito and transfer to the hotel.
Day 02 – Sunday | Quito
Breakfast included. Enjoy a sightseeing tour of the city of Quito to give you a first impression of the variety there is regarding religious and cultural sites. During your visit in the old part of the city, you can still breathe the colonial history of Ecuador. Your guide will take you for a walk through the culturally diverse history of Quito. Have a closer look at the heart of the city of Quito: The Independence Square with the Government and the Bishops Palace, as well as the Cathedral. On the way to San Francisco Square, you will visit the church of La Compañia, which has the most ornate and richly sculptured façade and interior.
** Remark: On Sundays, the visits of the churches might be restricted due to religious services.
As part of this walking tour, immerse yourself into the world of Ecuadorian chocolate. Learn about cacao’s history, how to grow it, and the processes to make great chocolate. The tour goes on to the Equatorial Line Monument called “Middle of the World”. Here you get a truly special experience to stand in both, the Northern and Southern Hemispheres simultaneously. Visit the monument and the Ethnographical Museum, which shows the history of the Indian cultures of Ecuador.
Day 03 – Monday | Quito – Santa Cruz Island (Galapagos)
Breakfast included. Early in the morning, transfer to the Quito´s airport in order to take the flight to the Galapagos Islands (not included). Then, take a short bus ride to the Itabaca Channel and a ferry to the Santa Cruz Island. Later, drive through the highlands and observe the change in vegetation: from arid landscapes filled with cacti to the lush rainforest. Take a short stop and observe the twin craters.
Afterwards, you will visit a Giant Tortoise Reserve in the Santa Cruz highlands, one of the few places where you can see these giants in their natural habitat. The Giant Tortoise Reserve is also one of the best sites to observe the short-eared owl, another endemic specie from the Galapagos Islands. Lunch will be served at a local ranch. Then continue to Puerto Ayora for overnight.
Day 04 – Tuesday | Santa Cruz – Isabela
Breakfast included. Morning visit to Tortuga Bay, one of the most beautiful beaches in the archipelago. Observe marine iguanas, turtles, and seabirds. Later, transfer by boat to Isabela Island.
Day 05 – Wednesday | Isabela
After breakfast, from Puerto Villamil, take a short boat ride to a small rocky islet known as “Las Tintoreras”, one of the island’s most beautiful sites. Later on, visit the Flamingos’ pools, or “Pozo de los Flamingos”, and get up close and personal with these beautiful, bright pink birds that adorn the lagoon’s shores. The trail ends at the Giant Tortoise Breeding Centre. Enjoy dinner in a local restaurant.
Day 06 – Thursday | Isabela – Santa Cruz
Breakfast Included. Take a 50-minute drive towards the Sierra Negra volcano. In the afternoon, transfer to the pier to take the public speedboat to Santa Cruz Island. The ride takes about 2,5 hours. Transfer to hotel. Rest of the day at leisure.
Day 07 – Friday | Santa Cruz
Breakfast Included. Half-day Academy Bay Tour along the coast of Santa Cruz Island. Lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the Charles Darwin Research Centre in Puerto Ayora.
Day 08 – Saturday | Santa Cruz
Breakfast Included. Day at leisure.
Day 09 – Sunday | Santa Cruz – Quito – Lima
Breakfast Included. Transfer to the airport for the flight back to Quito, followed by connection to Lima, Peru.
Day 10 – Monday | Lima – Cusco – Sacred Valley
Breakfast Included. Flight to Cusco. Upon arrival, transfer to the Sacred Valley and visit the social project “Manos de la Comunidad.” Here, you can get up close and personal with Andean camelids as you learn to differentiate llamas, alpacas, vicuñas, and guanacos. The project aims to preserve and promote weaving traditions while supporting local communities.
Day 11 – Tuesday | Sacred Valley
Breakfast Included. Tour the salt mines of Maras, the circular terraces of Moray, and the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo. Visit a local home and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.
Day 12 – Wednesday | Sacred Valley – Cusco
Breakfast Included. You will be picked up at given time from your hotel and taken to the train station of Ollantaytambo.
At the train station, board the panoramic train and enjoy the stunning Andean views filled with small communities and snow-capped mountains in the Sacred Valley. When you arrive to Aguas Calientes, the small village nestled at the bottom of Machu Picchu, take the shuttle bus up to the ancient citadel. Learn about the Inca civilization, the site’s discovery, and the different theories on this mysterious and spectacular archaeological site. You will be picked up at given time at Ollantaytambo and brought to Cusco.
Day 13 – Thursday | Cusco
Breakfast Included.Start your Cusco City Tour in the “Plaza de Armas” and visit the impressive renaissance-style Cathedral. Make your way through small alleys edged with Incan walls until you reach Koricancha, the temple dedicated to the sun “Inti”. Visit Sacsayhuaman, the Inca ceremonial fortress dedicated to the sun. Afternoon at leisure.
Day 14 – Friday | Cusco – Lima
Breakfast Included.City tour in Lima. At the scheduled time, transfer to the airport for your international departure or begin an optional extension.
