Peru, Ecuador – Andean Faces
13 Days/ 12 Nights
Itinerary:
Day 01 – Lima
Arrival in Lima, the capital city of Peru.
Day 02 – Lima
Visit the local market in Lima and enjoy a cooking class with the Peruvian specialties Ceviche and Lomo Saltado, followed by lunch. City tour through the colonial and modern parts with visit of the San Francisco Monastery.
Day 03 – Lima – Yucay
Flight to Cusco and transfer to the Sacred Valley. On the way visit to the ruins of Sacsayhuaman and the Andean community Amaru to learn about the traditional textile processing. Lunch will be prepared with the best regional ingredients.
Day 04 – Yucay
Excursion to the ruins of Ollantaytambo, the agricultural terraces of Moray and the salt pans of Maras. Participation in two workshops in the Maras community.
Day 05 – Yucay – Machu Picchu – Cusco
Full day excursion by Vistadome train to Machu Picchu inclusive guided visit of the Incan site. In the afternoon, transfer by bus and train to Cusco.
Day 06 – Cusco
City tour with visit to the cathedral, the sun tempel Qoricancha and San Blas neighborhood. Introduction of how to play the typical panpipes and visit the colonial church.
Day 07 – Cusco – Quito
Flight via Lima to Quito, the capital city of Ecuador.
Day 08 – Quito
City tour with Equatorial monument, Ethnographical Museum and walk through the historic center. Visit La Compañia church. Tour through the street „La Ronda“ with chocolate tasting.
Day 09 – Quito – Otavalo
Transfer to Ibarra for a 2-hour train ride aboard the „Tren de la Libertad“. Visit of the handicraft towns around Otavalo and transfer to Peguche. Dinner with local specialties at the community.
Day 10 – Otavalo – Cotopaxi area
Excursion to the famous handicraft market of Otavalo and visit of the rose hacienda „La Compañia de Jesús“ where lunch will be served. Transfer towards the Cotopaxi region.
Day 11 – Cotopaxi area
Excursion to the volcanic lake Quilotoa (3.900m) with visit of a typical Andean market.
Day 12 – Cotopaxi area – Papallacta
Visit to the Cotopaxi National Park with a short walk along the lake Laguna de Limpiopungo (4.000m). Transfer to Papallacta followed by relaxation in the hotels hot springs.
Day 13 – Papallacta – Quito
Transfer to the airport of Quito for homebound flight.
