Itinerary:
Day 01 – Quito
Arrival in Quito and transfer to the hotel. Remaining day at leisure.
Day 02 – Quito
Experience the colourful history of colonial Quito during a city tour. Continue to the Equator Monument, Mitad del Mundo, where the southern and northern hemispheres meet. Visit of the interactive museum Inti Ñan.
Day 03 – Quito – Mindo
Excursion to the Yanacocha Reserve. Transfer to the subtropical town Mindo surrounded by cloud forest. Overnight at a Hostería.
Day 04 – Mindo
Visit of a butterfly farm to explore the colourful diversity of Ecuadorian butterflies, hummingbirds and subtropical flowers. Short walk and cable car ride to the nearby waterfalls.
Day 05 – Mindo – Otavalo
Visit to the Pahuma Orchid Reserve before heading towards Otavalo, passing by the fertile Guayllabamba gorge and village as well as the San Pablo Lake. Overnight at a Hacienda.
Day 06 – Otavalo
Visit of the famous Indian handcrafts market of Otavalo and the small town Peguche. The village is renowned for its skilled weavers and a beautiful trail that leads to a waterfall.
Day 07 – Otavalo
Excursion to the ecological reserve El Angel for a hike through the incomparable landscape. Visit of the lagoons Voladero and Potrerillos.
Day 08 – Otavalo
Transfer to the fertile valley of Salinas for a train ride through the scenic Andean countryside aboard the “Tren de Libertad”. Visit of the town San Antonio de Ibarra, known for its woodcraft with religious influences.
Day 09 – Otavalo – Cotopaxi
Morning visit of the crater lake Cuicocha followed by a drive along the “Avenue of the Volcanoes” to the volcano Cotopaxi. Overnight at a Hacienda.
Day 10 – Cotopaxi
Excursion to the National Park Cotopaxi for a walk near the shallow lake “Laguna de Limpiopungo” with views to the Cotopaxi looming in the background.
Day 11 – Cotopaxi – Papallacta
Excursion to the Antisana Natural Reserve. Lunch in a typical hacienda. Transfer to Papallacta. Overnight at a hotel.
Day 12 – Papallacta
Enjoy the pleasant effect of the warm, odorless thermal water and go for a walk to explore the typical flora and fauna of this region.
Day 13 – Papallacta – Quito
Transfer to Quito airport and homebound flight.
