Peru – Hike the Inca Trail
13 Days/ 12 Nights
Itinerary:
Day 1 – Lima
Arrival in Lima, the “City of Kings.” Transfer to your hotel and day at leisure.
Day 2 – Lima
Culinary tour of Lima, highlighting Peru’s famous dishes. Visit a local market to learn about traditional products, then prepare ceviche and Pisco Sour. Lunch included at a local restaurant (shared basis).
Day 3 – Lima – Cusco
Flight to Cusco. Walking tour of the city with visits to the Cathedral, Plaza de Armas, and Korikancha, the Sun Temple of the Incas.
Day 4 – Cusco
Explore ruins around Cusco, including Sacsayhuaman fortress. Learn about the monumental Inca architecture and enjoy breathtaking views.
Day 5 – Cusco – Sacred Valley – Cusco
Transfer to the Sacred Valley for a River Rafting tour on the Pachar River with class II and III rapids. Picnic lunch included. Optional ride on typical Peruvian “Paso Fino” horses to Ollantaytambo.
Day 6 – Cusco – Huayllabamba
Start the shared Inca Trail Adventure. Transfer to the trailhead and hike via Miskay and Llactapata to Huayllabamba, where the first camp is set up.
Day 7 – Huayllabamba – Pacaymayo
Ascend to the mountain pass Abra Warmihuanusca. Descend into the Pacaymayo valley, transitioning into cloud forest. Camp set up after approximately 7 hours of trekking.
Day 8 – Pacaymayo – Phuyupatamarca
Climb to the second pass, Abra Runkurakay, visit the circular ruins, then descend to the Sayacmarca complex. Continue to Phuyupatamarca and Wiñaywayna ruins, where the final camp is established.
Day 9 – Phuyupatamarca – Machu Picchu – Cusco
Early morning hike to Intipunku, the Sun Gate, for sunrise views of Machu Picchu. Guided tour of the citadel. Afternoon return to Cusco by train and bus.
Day 10 – Cusco – Puerto Maldonado
Flight to Puerto Maldonado. Transfer by bus and boat to Refugio Amazonas Lodge. Jungle hike with a local guide. Full board included.
Days 11-12 – Puerto Maldonado
Excursion program at the lodge with hikes and boat trips to explore Amazonian fauna and flora. Activities adjusted according to wildlife sightings.
Day 13 – Puerto Maldonado – Cusco – Lima
Transfer to the airport in Puerto Maldonado for flight to Lima and homebound departure.
