Peru – Glamping along the Inca Trail
11 Days/ 10 Nights
Itinerary:
Day 1 – Lima
Arrival in Lima and transfer to the hotel. Remainder of the day at leisure in the “City of Kings.” Optional visit to the Larco Herrera Museum.
Day 2 – Lima – Cusco
Flight to Cusco, ancient capital of the Inca Empire. Walking tour visiting key landmarks of both Incan and Colonial times.
Day 3 – Cusco
Explore the surroundings of Cusco: fortress-temple of Saqsaywaman, shrines of Kenqo, Tambomachay with its cleansing water rituals, and Korikancha, Temple of the Sun. Afternoon at leisure in Cusco.
Day 4 – Cusco – Sacred Valley – Cusco
Visit the Sacred Valley, including Awanakancha, a living museum of Andean camelids, Pisac market, and Ollantaytambo fortress.
Day 5 – Cusco – Huayllabamba
Begin the Deluxe Inca Trail Adventure. Transfer to Piskacuchu, the trailhead. Trek to Miskay and the Inca city Llactapata, then continue to Huayllabamba to set up the first camp.
Day 6 – Huayllabamba – Pacaymayo
Hike to the mountain pass Abra Warmihuanusca. Descend into the Pacaymayo valley through changing landscapes of cloud forest. Set up camp after approximately 7 hours of trekking.
Day 7 – Pacaymayo – Phuyupatamarca
Ascend to the second pass, Abra Runkurakay. Visit the circular ruin Runkurakay, then descend to the Sayacmarca complex. Continue to Phuyupatamarca ruins for the last camp.
Day 8 – Phuyupatamarca – Machu Picchu
Hike past Wiñaywayna ruins to Intipunku, the Sun Gate, to watch the sunrise over Machu Picchu. Descend to Aguas Calientes, the town at the foot of the citadel.
Day 9 – Machu Picchu – Cusco
Guided exploration of Machu Picchu, the iconic Lost City of the Incas. Return to Cusco in the afternoon by train and bus.
Day 10 – Cusco – Lima
Return flight to Lima. Remainder of the day at leisure.
Day 11 – Lima
Transfer to the airport for homebound flight.
