Day 2: ISTANBUL (AD)
Breakfast. At 9:00 AM, we will meet our Spanish-speaking guide for a panoramic excursion along the coast of the Sea of Marmara, heading towards the historic peninsula. We will circle this ancient gem, admiring the imposing Walls of Constantinople, which have protected the city for centuries, until we reach the majestic Roman Aqueduct. We will also enjoy a panoramic view of the Prince’s Mosque (Şehzade Camii in Turkish), one of Istanbul’s most prominent monuments, considered the first example of classical Ottoman architecture. Next, we will stop to sample Turkish delight and Turkish tea. Afterwards, we will cross the Unkapani Bridge over the Golden Horn and enter the modern heart of Istanbul, finally arriving at the vibrant Taksim Square. The rest of the day is free. An optional “Colors of Istanbul” tour, including lunch at a traditional restaurant, is available. We’ll head to the old Jewish quarter of Balat, where we’ll stroll along its charming cobblestone streets lined with colorful wooden houses and vibrant antique shops. Next, we’ll visit the nearby Greek quarter of Fener, known for its Orthodox churches, most notably the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. Lunch will be at a traditional restaurant. In the afternoon, we’ll explore the Egyptian Bazaar, also known as the Spice Bazaar. This vibrant market is a feast for the senses, with stalls overflowing with spices, sweets, dried fruits, and a wide variety of local produce. To end the day, we’ll board a boat for a relaxing cruise on the Bosphorus, the strait that divides the city between Europe and Asia. We’ll enjoy breathtaking views of Ottoman fortresses, palaces, villas, and the bridges that connect both sides of the city. Return to the hotel. Overnight stay.
