ITINERARY:

Day 1 – Bogotá

Arrival in Bogotá, Colombia’s vibrant capital. Meet your local English-speaking guide and transfer to your hotel.

Day 2 – Bogotá

Visit the bustling Paloquemao Market, one of Colombia’s most traditional marketplaces filled with colorful fruits, flowers, and local flavors. Continue with a half-day city tour of the historical La Candelaria district, and visit the world-famous Gold Museum, home to an extraordinary collection of pre-Hispanic gold artifacts.

Day 3 – Bogotá – Villa de Leyva

Travel to the charming colonial town of Villa de Leyva, known for its cobblestone streets and preserved 16th-century architecture. En route, stop to explore the impressive Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá — a magnificent underground church carved into a salt mine.

Day 4 – Villa de Leyva

Enjoy an excursion through a desert-like landscape to the Monastery of Ecce Homo and see the fossilized skeleton of a Kronosaurus. Continue to “El Infiernito,” the ancient astronomical center of the Muisca culture.

Day 5 – Villa de Leyva – Barichara

Journey through the scenic Andean mountains to Barichara, one of Colombia’s most picturesque colonial villages. Discover its quiet charm, cobbled streets, and whitewashed houses.

Day 6 – Barichara – Guane – Barichara

Take a guided walk along the historic “Camino Real,” an 8-kilometer trail connecting Barichara to the quaint village of Guane. Visit the small paleontological museum before returning to Barichara. Visit a local cigar factory and browse the town’s artisan workshops.

Day 7 – Barichara – Giron

Depart Barichara to visit the spectacular Chicamocha Canyon — one of the largest canyons in the world, offering breathtaking mountain scenery. Continue to Giron, a charming colonial town.

Day 8 – Giron – Cartagena

Transfer to Bucaramanga Airport for your flight to Cartagena, the jewel of Colombia’s Caribbean coast. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 9 – Cartagena

Begin with a half-day tour of Cartagena, including a visit to the Convent of La Popa for panoramic views of the city and a photo stop at Fort San Felipe. Continue with a walking tour through the colorful streets of the Old Town and visit the Convent of San Pedro Claver. Afternoon at leisure to enjoy the city’s lively atmosphere.

Day 10 – Cartagena

Transfer to the airport for your return flight or extension program.
