ITINERARY:

DAY 1:  ARRIVAL in THESSALONIKI

Arrival at Thessaloniki Airport and transfer to the city  center. Introduction to Thessaloniki, once known as the Jerusalem of the Balkans, home to one of the most important Sephardic Jewish communities in Europe. Guided  visit to  the   Jewish museum  and the  synagogues.  In  the  evening in your free  time take a  walk along the seafront  and the  historic center, highlighting the city’s multicultural and Jewish  past. Overnight in Thessaloniki.

DAY 2:  THESSALONIKI – PELLA – EDESSA – THESSALONIKI

After breakfast, departure to  Pella, the ancient capital of Macedonia. Guided visit to the  archaeological site and museum, with references to the Hellenistic world in which Jewish communities also lived and interacted. Continue to Edessa, famous for its waterfalls and historic old town. Free time for lunch and a short walk. Return to Thessaloniki in  the afternoon. Overnight in Thessaloniki.

DAY 3: THESSALONIKI – VERIA – VERGINA – THESSALONIKI

Morning departure to Veria  (Beroea), a city of great sigificance for Jewish and early  biblical history. Visit the old Jewish quarter (Barbouta) and the Jewish synagogue, and mention of Veria in the Acts of the Apostles, highlighting the presence of Jewish  communities in Roman times. Continue to Vergina (Aigai), the ancient Macedonian capital, with a guided visit to the Royal Tombs Museum. Return  to Thessaloniki in  the late afternoon.  Overnight in Thessaloniki.

DAY 4: THESSALONIKI – DION – OLYMPOS – THESSALONIKI

Drive south to Dion, the sacred city of the ancient Macedonians, located at the foothills of Mount Olympus. Visit the archaeological park and museum. 

Continue  to the Mount Olympus area, with time for nature, sort walks,  and lunch, combining mythology, history, and landscape. Return to Thessaloniki in the evening. Overnight in Thessaloniki.

DAY 5: THESSALONIKI – LARISA – KALAMBAKA – IOANNINA

Departure from Thessaloniki toward Larissa, a city mentioned in Jewish historical  sources and home to a longstanding Jewish presence. Short stop and orientation. Continue to Kalampaka, beneath  the spectacular Meteora rock formations. Visit 2 of the Monasteries and stop for lunch. Proceed to Ioannina, one of the most important centers of Romaniote Judaism in Greece.

Overnight in Ioannina.

DAY 6: IOANNINA – THESSALONIKI

Morning visit to the  Ioannina Jewish Synagogue and the Romaniote Jewish Museum, focusing on  the unique traditions, language, and history of the Romaniote Jews. Follows the visit to the Island of Kyra Frosyni and later transfer back to Thessaloniki  in the afternoon. Overnight in Thessaloniki.

DAY 7: THESSALONIKI DEPARTURE

Transfer to Thessaloniki International  Airport for departure. End of services.
