Itinerary:
Day 01 – Santiago de Chile
Arrival in Santiago, a city full of contrasts. Get a first impression on a city tour to the main attractions including a drive up San Cristóbal Hill for a fantastic panoramic view of the city.
Day 02 – Santiago de Chile
Full day excursion to Viña del Mar and Valparaíso.
Day 03 – Santiago de Chile – Calama – San Pedro
Flight to Calama and transfer to San Pedro de Atacama, situated in a green oasis in the middle of the Atacama Desert. Right in time for the beautiful sunset, drive to the Moon Valley in the late afternoon. The last sun rays color the valley in shining orange, red, and purple hues.
Day 04 – San Pedro de Atacama
Visit the huge Atacama Salt Lake, an inland sea dating back millions of years. Following the road toward Argentina, see the lagoons of Miscanti & Miñiques, set at the base of two immense volcanoes.
Day 05 – San Pedro de Atacama
Early in the morning, reach one of the most important geothermal fields in the world, the Geysers del Tatio, located at 4,320 m above sea level, surrounded by water emanations and steam. Visit “Pozón Rústico” with its thermal waters and stop at the village of Machuca, a place of ancient shepherds, built of adobe, straw, and cactus houses.
Day 06 – San Pedro – Hito Cajon – Ojo de Perdiz
Transfer from San Pedro to Ojo de Perdiz crossing the Chile/Bolivia border (Hito Cajon). Visit the Red and Green Lagoons, the “Sol de Mañana” geysers, and discover different rock formations created by wind and rain. Continue to reach the Ecolodge Tayka in the Siloli Desert.
Day 07 – Ojo de Perdiz – Uyuni
Drive through the Siloli Desert to reach the viewpoint on Volcano Ollagüe. Visit the lagoons Hedionda, Chiarkhota, and Honda, where Andean, Chilean, and James Flamingos can be seen. Cross the salt lake and visit the Galaxi underwater caves and Incahuasi Island, famous for its gigantic cactus plants. After visiting a small salt plant, arrive at the famous salt hotel Luna Salada.
Day 08 – Uyuni – Villazon – Purmamarca
Visit the train cemetery to observe antique steam locomotives and rail cars from the early railroad days, built mainly in France and England. Cross the border between Bolivia and Argentina at Villazon/La Quiaca to reach Purmamarca, a picturesque village at the foot of the Seven Colours Mountains.
Day 09 – Purmamarca – Salta
Drive north to Humahuaca and experience the unique Quebrada de Humahuaca, a 130 km long mountain valley. Continue south to the old colonial city of Salta.
Day 10 – Salta – Cafayate – Salta
Full day excursion to Cafayate, Argentina’s second center for quality wine production, surrounded by vineyards and soaring mountains. Visit a winery including wine tasting and lunch. Continue along the 75 km long Quebrada de las Conchas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its multicoloured mountains and rock formations.
Day 11 – Salta – Buenos Aires
Flight to Buenos Aires, the capital and most populous city of Argentina. City tour through the diverse neighbourhoods of San Telmo, Recoleta, Puerto Madero, and La Boca. Dinner and Tango Show at El Viejo Almacen in the heart of San Telmo.
Day 12 – Buenos Aires
Immerse yourself in Argentine country life on a full-day excursion to Estancia Santa Susana in the Pampas. Visit the estate, enjoy a traditional Asado BBQ, and experience typical dances and the impressive riding skills of the gauchos.
Day 13 – Buenos Aires
Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
