Colombia-Birding

Itinerary: 

Day 1 – Bogotá

Arrival in Bogotá and hotel transfer. Remainder of the day at leisure. Optional city tour available.

Day 2 – Bogotá → Cali

Flight to Cali, Colombia’s vibrant salsa capital founded in 1536. Enjoy a free day exploring the city’s lively atmosphere and colonial charm.

Day 3 – Cali

Morning birding at Finca La Araucana, spotting species such as the Green Honeycreeper, Flame-Rumped Tanager, and Near-Endemic Scrub Tanager. Lunch and more birding at the magical Bichacue Yath Reserve, a garden filled with avian treasures.

Day 4 – Cali

Venture into the cloud forest in search of colorful Tanagers—Purplish-mantled, Golden-naped, and Metallic-green—along with the energetic Cinnamon Flycatcher. End the day with a dazzling hummingbird display at Raul’s Place.

Day 5 – Cali

Explore Bosque de San Antonio, a haven for diverse bird species. Enjoy lunch and warm hospitality at Eduardo Carvajal’s home, surrounded by active feeders and abundant birdlife.

Day 6 – Cali → Pereira

Depart for the Sonso Lagoon, one of Colombia’s finest wetland habitats. Watch for Wattled Jacanas, Snowy Egrets, and Spotted Sandpipers before continuing to Pereira.

Day 7 – Pereira

Early visit to Rio Blanco Nature Reserve, known for its incredible hummingbird diversity and numerous endemic species. Guided walk through pristine forest trails.

Day 8 – Pereira

Full-day excursion to the Otún Quimbaya Wildlife Sanctuary, a peaceful refuge teeming with birds, butterflies, and small mammals.

Day 9 – Pereira → Bogotá

Return flight to Bogotá. Optional visit to the Gold Museum, home to pre-Columbian treasures and rich cultural history.

Day 10 – Bogotá / Departure

Transfer to the airport for your homebound flight.
