Bike and Trekking in the South 

14 Days/ 13 Nights 

Itinerary: 

Day 01 – Bogotá
Arrival in Bogotá, the capital city with colonial flair and bubbling vitality.

Day 02 – Bogotá
In the morning discover Bogotá’s most famous sights by bike. The tour concludes with a cable car ride to the top of Monserrate Hill with great views of the city.

Day 03 – Bogotá – Silvia
Flight to Cali, transfer to Silvia, home of the so-called Guamibano Indigenas, who will carry on their old traditions in a reserve. Well-known are their purple and pink costumes.

Day 04 – Silvia – Tierradentro
In the morning you will visit the small village and local market of the Guambiano Indios. From Silvia you will start your first abundant Mountainbike tour towards Tierradentro (ca. 45 km).

Day 05 – Tierradentro
Mountain bike tour to Santa Rosa (25 km) with a beautiful view of the region. Continue to the archaeological park of Tierradentro, famous for its unique rock graves.

Day 06 – Tierradentro – San Agustín
Transfer across the Cordillera to San Agustin. Visit to the historical ruin site from the San-Augustin culture with more than 300 huge stone sculptures, so-called “Idolos”.

Day 07 – San Agustín – NP de los Guácharos
Transfer along the Magdalena river to reach Palestina. From here you will start a 6 hours hiking tour to reach the visitor center of the National park. The hiking passes through a secondary forest with lots of options for bird watching. Typical lunch on the shore of river Cascajosa. Arrival at the park and time to relax. Briefing about the National park by the park management. Dinner and overnight at Cabañas within the park.

Day 08 – National park de los Guácharos
2 hours hiking to visit the “Indios Cave”, where you can observe different lime rock formations and a special endemic spidery (Pocock – Pterinochilus). The Cave of Guácharo houses the rare oilbird, a nocturnal and fruit-eating bird species, and will be crossed by the river Suaza. In the afternoon 3 hours hike to visit a waterfall. Lunch and dinner included.

Day 09 – NP de los Guácharos – San Agustín
Today’s 3 hour trekking tour leads to the village Villa Fátima. From here you will return to San Agustín.

Day 10 – San Agustín
On this full day Mountain bike tour you will explore the green hills around San Agustín, partially along the canyon of river Magdalena passing coffee- and sugar cane plantations.

Day 11 – San Agustín – Tatacoa Desert
Excursion to visit the scenic Tatacoa desert with its bizarre rock formations and huge cacti. In the evening you will have the possibility to watch the stars in the sky at the observatory.

Day 12 – Tatacoa Desert
The Tatacoa desert is one of the most spectacular places in Colombia for mountain biking. On the so-called Tatacoa ring the tour will go through washed-out canyons and the wide open space of the tropical dry forest with sporadic green cacti, birds and goats (5-6h).

Day 13 – Tatacoa Desert – Bogotá
2 hours mountain biking to reach Villa Nueva. Transfer back to Bogotá.

Day 14 – Bogotá
Transfer to the airport of Bogotá for homebound flight.
