ITINERARY:
1st Day (Tue.) MADRID – ZARAGOZA – SAN SEBASTIAN
Depart from our established hotels in Madrid. Please refer to your documentation for detailed departure information. Depart towards Zaragoza. Free time to visit the Basilica of Our Lady of The Pilar, patroness of Hispanity and stroll through the old streets of Zaragoza. In the afternoon we will continue to San Sebastian, one of the most famous tourist destinations where they hold the International Film Festival. Accommodation.
2nd Day (Wed.) SAN SEBASTIAN
Breakfast at the hotel. Panoramic tour of this elegant and gentrified city whose landscape is dominated by the Bay and La Concha Beach. We will go up to Mount Igueldo, from where we will be able to contemplate a magnificent view of the city. Rest of the day at leisure.
In the afternoon, possibility of an optional visit to the picturesque villages of Biarritz and San Juan de Luz, already in French territory. Accommodation. (B)
3rd Day (Thu.) SAN SEBASTIAN – BILBAO – CASTRO URDIALES – SANTANDER
Breakfast and departure to Bilbao for some free time on the esplanade of the Guggenheim Museum to admire this modern work of architecture. We will continue towards Castro Urdiales, a typical fishing village where we will have free time. Departure to Santander, a port city nestled between the sea and the mountains, and with numerous beaches, such as El Sardinero, one of the best known. Guided tour with a local guide to thoroughly explore this beautiful city.Accommodation. (B)
4th Day (Fri.) SANTANDER – SANTILLANA – COVADONGA – OVIEDO
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to Santillana del Mar, one of the towns with the greatest historical and artistic value in Spain, which houses true architectural treasures, such as the Collegiate Church of Santa Juliana, the most important Romanesque jewel in Cantabria. Continue to Covadonga, where we will have free time to visit the Sanctuary and the grotto with the image of the Virgin. In the afternoon departure to Oviedo, located on a series of hills at the foot of the Naranco and which stands out for the beauty of its streets, many of them pedestrian. Its monuments are a World Heritage Site and among them the Cathedral stands out, one of the most important works of Asturian Gothic. Accommodation. (B)
5th Day (Sat.) OVIEDO – MONDOÑEDO – LUGO – SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA
Breakfast and departure towards the Galician region. On the way to Lugo, stop in Mondoñedo; free time to visit its imposing 12th century cathedral and try the delicious “Mondoñedo cake”. Departure to Lugo and free time to contemplate the Roman vestiges that it still conserves as its walls, declared a World Heritage Site. Continuation to Santiago de Compostela, whose ancient city is a World Heritage Site, and one of the most important monumental centers in Spain, center of Christian pilgrimage and end of the Camino de Santiago, originally built by the Roman Empire. 6th Day (Sun.) SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA
Breakfast at the hotel. City tour of Santiago visiting the Plaza del Obradoiro and its Cathedral (entrance included) dedicated to the Apostle Santiago el Mayor. Rest of the day at leisure to continue visiting this city with a university and student atmosphere. Accommodation. (B)
7th Day (Mon.) SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA – RIAS BAJAS – PORTO
Breakfast. Departure to the most picturesque area of the Galician Rías Bajas (Spanish fjords). Through splendid landscapes, we will arrive at the island of La Toja, universally known for its spa and natural wealth. Free time and continuation through the Arosa estuary on the way to Portugal. Arrival in Porto and accommodation. (B)
8th Day (Tue.) PORTO
Breakfast at the hotel. Panoramic tour of Porto considered a World Heritage Site where we will contemplate the Cathedral, the Stock Exchange building and the Church of Santa Clara. Then enjoy a different perspective of the city along the Douro River on board a cruise and discover the historical heritage by visiting a well-known Port Wine Cellar with wine tasting included. Rest of the day free. Accommodation. (B)
9th Day (Wed.) PORTO
Breakfast and overnight at the hotel. Free day in this magnificent city on the banks of the Douro. (B)
10th Day (Thu.) PORTO – COIMBRA – FATIMA
Breakfast. Departure to Coimbra, the city that hosts one of the oldest universities in Europe and the cradle of Fado. Leisure. Continuation to Fatima. Center of the Christian Faith and World Pilgrimage Sanctuary with its impressive Basilica and the Cova da Iria, place where the Virgin Mary appeared. The Chapel of the Apparitions, the heart of the sanctuary, with the tombs of the three little shepherds, Lucía, Francisco and Jacinta. At night enjoy the opportunity of attending the candlelight procession. Accommodation. (B)
11th Day (Fri.) FATIMA – BATALHA – NAZARE – ALCOBAÇA – LISBON
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to the Batalha Monastery, a masterpiece of Gothic and Manueline style considered a World Heritage place by UNESCO. Continue to the picturesque fishing town of Nazare. Free time and continue to Alcobaça (World Heritage) with its Gothic church and Cistercian monastery, whose origins date back to the XII C. Then to Lisbon. Arrival in the Portuguese capital and accommodation. (B)
12th Day (Sat.) LISBON
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning, a city tour of Lisbon, formerly known as Olissipo, including its main squares and avenues, the Belem Tower, the Jerónimos Monastery (exterior), the Monument to the Discoverers… The afternoon is free to explore the city’s charming corners, such as the Alfama district, or take the optional excursion to Sintra and Cascais (World Heritage Sites). 13th Day (Sun.) LISBON – MERIDA – CORDOBA
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure towards Merida, the capital of Extremadura. Declared a World Heritage Site, Merida is renowned for its rich historical heritage, including its well-preserved Roman ruins: the theater, the amphitheater, the Roman bridge, and more. Free time and then continue to Córdoba, once the capital of the Caliphate. Accommodation at the hotel. (B)
14th Day (Mon.) CORDOBA – SEVILLE
Breakfast at the hotel. Impressive tour of its Mosque and other sites that will ease our mind and spirit strolling through its narrow winding streets of the Jewish Quarter. In the afternoon, after a short two hours ride reach Seville. Accommodation at the hotel. (B)
15th Day (Tue.) SEVILLE
Breakfast at the hotel. Morning panoramic city tour visiting the Cathedral (the second largest in the Catholic world after St. Peters in Rome), Santa Cruz quarter (a natural scenario of “Carmen” as well as a precisely where the myth of “Don Juan” developed), Maria Luisa Park and Plaza de España. Afternoon at leisure for you to discover exclusive views, specific flavors of this active full of light city. Accommodation at the hotel. Optional Flamenco show. (B)
16th Day (Wed.) SEVILLE – GRANADA
Breakfast at the hotel. Drive east through the Caliphate Road to the heart of Andalusia observing an endless number of olive trees on the way to Granada and its incredible and amazing monumental environment, last stronghold of the Moorish Kingdoms up to 1492. Visit the world-famous Alhambra complex and Generalife Gardens that have inspired several authors with its sound and sights, such as the “Tales of the Alhambra” by Washington Irving. Accommodation at the hotel. In the evening, optionally, a Flamenco Zambra show. (B)
17th Day (Thu.) GRANADA – VALENCIA
After breakfast at the hotel, departure towards the east to arrive in Valencia, one of the main capitals of the Mediterranean coast, featuring its modern City of Arts and Sciences complex, which includes six buildings: the Hemispheric, Umbracle, Science Museum, Oceanogràfic, Palau de les Arts, and Ágora. Valencia is also the birthplace of the internationally renowned “Paella.” Accommodation at the hotel. (B)
18th Day (Fri.) VALENCIA – BARCELONA
Breakfast at the hotel. Morning city tour of this bright city including a drive through the old city showing the most prominent buildings, we will then be driven past the old riverbed of the Turia to the most avant-garde complex “Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias” to watch the emblematic exteriors of the six buildings. Early afternoon departure northward all along the Mediterranean coast to Catalunya, via Tarragona, the Roman Tarraco. Reach Barcelona principal Mediterranean city homeland of the famous architect Gaudí symbol of the Catalonian modernism. Accommodation at the hotel. (B)
19th Day (Sat.) BARCELONA
Breakfast at the hotel. Morning city tour of Barcelona, well known worldwide for the Olympic Games during 1992, drive along the main avenues with impressive modernist buildings by Gaudi such as La Pedrera or Casa Mila and Casa Batlló – declared World Heritage buildings. The Montjuic Park with spectacular views of the city, Olympic Ring and monument to Columbus.
